The Anatolian shepherd but rather called the Anatolian
Sheepdog or Kangal is not a shepherd at all.
It is an extraordinary sheepdog.
It s a big strong and hardworking breed from the Anatolian fields of Turkey.
Always awake and prepared to explore the most strangest of things. The
breed has eyesight worth noticing, a great sense of smell and a hearing
sense not worth talking about.
Very intelligent. A dog that works and thinks with its
head.
Some Facts:
Homeland: Turkey
Name Of Breed: Anatolian shepherd, Anatolian sheepdog,
kangal, coban köpegi, karabas or Turkish dane.
Group: FCI 2 number 331
Usages: Sheepdog and guard of flocks, in Turkey the Police
and Army use the breed like companion, family dog for active family, in
America it is even used as a Therapist.
Height: Males 74-81cm in Turkey 90cm more, Females 72-79cm
Weight: 40-65 kg in Turkey 10-15 kg more
Walks: This breed needs a lot of exercise so he needs to be taken on walks
quite a lot, because we don t want them to run off on their owner it is
good to have a big, well-fenced garden, even though it is of great height
and weight it is very quick and skilled.
Relationships: Usually the dog gets along with other animals, but of course
it comes in handy if you already train the dog in its youth, with children
the dog is very caring, to strangers he could be distrusting, usually
caring to people that he trusts.
Schooling: Intelligent and very trainable, we get the best results from
loving, patient and early training. Before the Kangal do the commands
they think over and do it really slow.
Health: Because in Turkey they only bred the strongest of dogs that could
live through some extreme conditions the breed does not usually get any
obvious inherited diseases (some rare dogs get some trouble with moving,
rashes or are sensitive to medications).
Age: These dogs live much longer than usual big dogs (from 10 to 16 years,
in turkey 19 years).
Feeding: Very expensive and well-made foods for large dogs are good for
this particular breed.
